Blackened Seasoning

This blackened seasoning will be great on seafood, chicken and vegetables. It is bold in flavor, and will take your meal to another level!

What is blackening

Blackening is a cajun-style way of cooking that involves submerging food in butter, then seasoning with a blackened seasoning that primarily consists of dried herbs, paprika, salt, garlic powder, onion powder and cayenne pepper. The food is then cooked in a very hot, cast-iron skillet which will help give it a charred presentation.

How to prepare blackened seasoning

A lot of people use dried thyme and dried oregano. However, I love the dried herbs, so I cut corners and use Italian seasoning. I mix the Italian seasoning with salt, cayenne pepper, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder and onion powder. That is my go-to recipe for blackened seasoning.

After adding of your ingredients to a small bowl, whisk it until all of the ingredients are thoroughly mixed.

Voila! you have blackened seasoning!

How to use blackened seasoning

There is really no wrong way to use this seasoning. I use it on mainly seafood. Seafood is always delicious when it comes to cajun-style cooking. Earlier this week, I prepared blackened catfish, shrimp and scallops, and it was a hit in my household. Of course, I used my blackened seasoning recipe.

However, don’t feel limited to use it on seafood only. It is also great on chicken and vegetables. I’ve even seen and noticed people to use it on steak. So, please don’t limit this great seasoning to only particular types of meals.

I served my blackened seafood with dirty rice, which was really a great combination. All of those Cajun flavors together, made an award winning meal. The recipe for my dirty rice is linked below.
