Cranberry Margaritas

It is cranberry season, and nothing is more refreshing than my cranberry margaritas. It’s made with fresh cranberries, silver tequila, triple sec and lime juice in a cinnamon and sugar rimmed glass. This is a perfect addition to your Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner.

How to prepare Cranberry Margaritas

Cranberry syrup

This recipe will be null and void without the cranberry syrup. While, you can use cranberry juice if you like, I can’t guarantee it will taste the same. So, please don’t skip this step.

When preparing the cranberry syrup, you can use fresh or frozen cranberries. I use fresh because for some reason is always easier to find; at least for me they are. Not to mention, fresh is always better :-).

Once you mix all of the ingredients a sauce pan and bring to a simmer, the cranberries will start to burst. When this happens, don’t fret, as it is perfectly normal. Once the mixture is thickened, transfer it to a blender. I use an immersion blender as it is easier. I also add about an 1/4 cup of water to the mixture to thin it out a bit. This step is completely optional, but I do recommend.

Strain through a fine mesh strainer. Store mixture in a air tight container in refrigerator. Mixture can be stored for 2 weeks maximum.

Type of tequila

It is important to use a quality silver tequila. I personally prefer Patron, Don Julio or Casamigos. However, you can use any quality tequila you like, as long as it is silver.

Cinnamon and sugar rimmed glass

I found that cinnamon and sugar goes along perfect with this drink. If you are not a fan of cinnamon, then by all means, just use the sugar. But if you like cinnamon, let me tell you, it makes this drink so much better.

It is important to wet the rim of the glass using water or lime juice. It is easier to use the same lime wedge from one of the juiced limes. This will prevent you from having to cut more limes. Add ice a little over half way in glass.

Margaritas

Prepare the margaritas by adding all of the ingredients to a cocktail shaker and shaking. Pour the cocktail into the two prepared cocktail glasses and serve. Garnish with cranberries and limes if you wish.
