Strawberry Stuffed French Toast is made with King Hawaiian Rolls and stuffed with a creamy strawberry filling. This is perfect for a Valentine, anniversary, Mother’s Day or bridal brunch.

Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching, and I’m sure many of you are in search of something to prepare for your special person. If you decided to prepare breakfast or brunch, my Strawberry Stuffed French Toast is the recipe you probably didn’t realize you needed. I’m going to show you how to prepare it.

What is Strawberry Stuffed French Toast

One day on Youtube, a creator that goes by the name of Lawcannon, prepared French toast using King Hawaiian Rolls. That day, I decided that I would definitely be making that dish. After all, I am a fan of King Hawaiian Rolls, and also a fan of French toast. So, I knew that was a winning recipe.

Something else I have wanted to try is stuffed French toast. The first person I saw prepare stuffed French toast was one of my favorite bloggers, Deepfriedhoney. This was one of the first recipes she added to her blog, and I tried it not long after. Needless to say, it is one of my favorites until this day.

So last weekend, I decided use both of those winning recipes as inspiration to create my very own, Strawberry Stuffed French Toast. I couldn’t be more proud of the creation. I prepared a strawberry puree, then added it to cream cheese to produce a creamy strawberry filling.

After making the filling, I stuffed it between the Hawaiian rolls. Stuffing will be a lot easier if you have piping bags. If you don’t have piping bags, then a plastic bag will do just fine. A plastic bag is actually what I had to use, after noticing I was out of piping bags.

For my egg mixture, I used egg, cinnamon sugar, nutmeg, a pinch of salt, vanilla and half & half. I submerged each roll in the egg mixture before cooking them.

When cooking the rolls, it is important to start off with medium heat, then reduce if the heat gets too hot. These things burn pretty easily so it is important to keep and eye on the heat throughout the process.

Serve the French toast with powdered sugar and fresh strawberries if you like. Also, eggs and bacon goes great with them.

Total Time 30 minutes
Servings 12 pieces

Ingredients

  • 12 pack King Hawaiian rolls
  • 2 cups chopped fresh strawberries
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • juice from half of lemon
  • 8 oz. cream cheese softened
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup half & half
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • pinch of salt
  • 6 tbsp. unsalted butter
  • powdered sugar for garnish optional
  • strawberries for garnish

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan, add strawberries and water. Bring to boil, then stir in sugar. Cook for 2 minutes, then add lemon juice. Reduce heat to medium-low then simmer until strawberries are almost dissolved, and juice has thickened. Remove from heat.
  • In a small bowl, add cream cheese, strawberry mixture and 1 tsp. of vanilla extract. Using an efficiency mixture or hand mixture, mix strawberries and cream cheese until consistency is smooth and creamy.
  • Cut a small piece out of center of Hawaiian rolls, and fill with cream cheese mixture using a piping bag. If no piping bag is available, fill a sandwich bag with mixture, and cut off the tip (homemade piping bag). Seal off hole with piece of Hawaiian roll that was cut out. Repeat this step until all rolls are filled.
  • In another small bowl, add eggs, cinnamon sugar, nutmeg, pinch of salt and 1 tsp. of vanilla extract. Whisk together. Add half & half, then whisk until everything is combined. Coat each roll in egg mixture on all sides until fully coated.
  • In a medium non-stick skillet, heat 2 tbsp. of butter over medium heat. Once butter is melted, add 4 rolls to skillet, and cook on each side until sides are golden brown. These can burn quickly, so be sure to keep and eye on heat and reduce heat if needed. Repeat this step 2 more times until all rolls are cooked.
  • Serve immediately with optional powdered sugar, strawberries and syrup of choice.
