Cinnamon Roll French Toast

Do you love French toast? Do you love cinnamon rolls? Well, have you ever had them together? If you haven’t, I promise it’s a combination of flavors you will not forget.

Whenever my husband and I visit Another Broken Egg, the Cinnamon Roll French toast is one of our favorites. Yesterday we celebrated 12 years of marriage, and with everything going on , we didn’t feel comfortable going out, so I decided to prepare brunch at home. I decided to take a shot at my version of “Cinnamon Roll French Toast”, and it turned out absolutely delicious. With flavors of cinnamon, sugar and nutmeg, I promise it is a taste your entire family will enjoy.

Full, printable recipe is listed at the bottom. There is also a small video of me preparing it on my IGTV page.

Equipment you need:

Griddle or any non-stick skillet. I use a cast-iron griddle.

Ingredients:

  • Cinnamon Rolls – (Canned, store-bought or homemade) If you are using store-bought or homemade, ensure there is no icing on them.
  • Milk
  • Butter
  • Eggs
  • Vanilla
  • Nutmeg
  • Brown Sugar
  • Powdered Sugar
  • Strawberries
  • Blueberries

How to prepare:

  • Preheat a skillet over medium heat. Any skillet will work, but for this recipe, I think a cast iron griddle works best. If you don’t have one, no worries, just use what you have, and it will be just as delicious.
  • In a shallow bowl, combine milk, eggs, vanilla, brown sugar and nutmeg. Whisk together until completely mixed. You can also use a blender for this step
  • Dip cinnamon rolls into egg/milk mixture.
  • Cook on buttered griddle until cooked through. You will only flip once. Cook about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until browned.

Tip – Watch closely, and reduce heat as needed if you notice it is browning quickly before it’s cooked thoroughly. Sometimes the griddle can become too hot.

What to serve with Cinnamon Roll French Toast:

  • Topping of choice. I recommend syrup, powdered sugar, and fruit topping. But use whatever you prefer.
  • Eggs
  • Sausage
  • Bacon
  • A good omelet is always a fabulous idea.

Equipment

  • Griddle or skillet

Ingredients

  • 5 cinnamon rolls canned, store-bought or homemade (no icing)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • butter for griddle
  • toppings of choice (syrup, sugar, fruit, etc.)

Instructions

  • If you're using canned cinnamon rolls, preheat oven and cook according to directions on package. I use Pillsbury Grands (original, not flaky)
  • In a shallow bowl, combine, milk, eggs, vanilla, brown sugar and nutmeg. Whisk together. A blender can be used as well.
  • Cut each cinnamon roll in half length-wise. This will give you double the amount, giving you 10 slices.
  • Dip one slice of the cinnamon rolls at a time into egg mixture until fully coated. Allow some of the excess mixture to drip off.
  • Place cinnamon rolls in heated, buttered griddle, doughy side down first. Cook thoroughly, or until golden brown on bottom. About 2 – 3 minutes.
  • Flip cinnamon rolls to other side. This side is more than like already browned, so you will not need to cook as long. About 1 minute.
  • Repeat until all cinnamon rolls are cooked.
  • Serve warm with toppings of choice.

Notes

As you are cooking, keep an eye on it, and reduce heat as needed if you notice they are cooking too quickly.
Toppings that go great are syrup of choice, fruit topping and powdered sugar.
